Rupee depreciates by 17 paise against $

The rupee depreciated by 17 paise to 45.75 against the US dollar at the Interbank Foreign Exchange on Thursday. It closed 45.58 against the US dollar in the previous session. Forex dealers said the rupee weakened due to increased dollar demand and weak opening on the domestic bourses.

Oil prices down in Asian trade

Oil prices were down in Asian trade on Thursday. New York's light sweet crude lost two cents to 74.69 dollars a barrel in morning trade while Brent North Sea crude lost four cents to quote at 77.91dollars a barrel. Analysts said the markets are down due to weak energy demand in the US.
