Ban outsourcing of US government IT projects ill-advised: Commerce Minister

New Delhi today called upon the American corporate leaders and institutions to sensitise Congress and other decision-makers on the issue of outsourcing. Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma asserted in Washington that the decision of the Ohio Governor in the United States to ban outsourcing of government IT projects was ill-advised. He expressed the hope that no other state will follow the less informed path chosen by the Ohio state government. Mr.Sharma was Talking to Indian journalists.The minister hoped that the US will take timely and appropriate response on the issues like outsourcing ban and visa fee hike. Mr. Anand Sharma told Indian journalists at the end of his day-long parleys with top US officials, including Trade Representative Ron Kirk that India has put these issues firmly and the US has seriously registered it's view point as well as concerns of the Indian IT industry. He impressed to the US officials to look at areas of enhancing the services sector particularly the IT and communication sector and take all those steps which help them further consolidate the partnership and not weaken it in any manner. He also raised the issue of totalisation agreement and the need to accelerate the process and conclude it as soon as possible. Almost 2 billion dollars per annum social security payment is made by the Indian IT professionals in the US.
