Rupee weakens by 17 paise to 54.34 against dollar

The rupee weakened by 17 paise to 54 rupees 34 paise against the dollar in early trade today, due to month-end demand for the American currency from importers. In the previous session, the domestic currency had gained 16 paise to close at one-week high of 54 rupees 17 paise.
