Telcos can face Rs10 lakh fine for false info in ATRs regarding metering & billing: TRAI

Telecom operators could face penalty of up to 10 lakh rupees for submitting false and incomplete information in the action taken report regarding metering and billing system, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) said today.The regulator Trai today issued Quality of Service (Code of Practice for Metering and Billing Accuracy) (Amendment) Regulations, 2013, which can impose a financial disincentive of 1 lakh rupees per week on telecom companies for delay in submitting audit and action taken reports.The regulations aims to minimise incidences of billingcomplaints and seeks to protect the interest of consumers, the TRAI said in a release today.
