Rupee dropped by 23 paise to 49.42 rupees against dollar at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market in late morning trade on fresh dollar demand from importers.The rupee had gained 23 paise to close at 49.20 rupees per dollar on Monday.

The rupee declined by 12 paise to 49.31 rupees per dollar on the Interbank Foreign Exchange in early trade on Tuesday amid weak equity markets.The rupee had gained 23 paise to close at 49.20 rupees per dollar on Monday.

State Bank of India reported a16.3 per cent year-on-year increase in its quarterly consolidated net profit, at 4,318 crore rupees. SBI's total income stood at 43,156 crore rupees during the quarter under review, up 16.7 per cent.
