Pakistani aircraft have killed more than 40 people during overnight bombing raids near the Afghan border. A Pakistani official said that Army helicopters had targeted militants in a tribal region. A militant group said dozens of its people have been killed during two raids on a house.

Reports from Iran say a bomb has exploded outside a prison in the western city of Ilam near the Iraqi border. Fourteen people have been wounded in the blast. The head of a local hospital says no one was killed in the explosion.
