Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa firmed his grip on power after his United Peoples' Freedom Alliance yesterday swept the Parliamentary election. <br/><br/>Within hours after the results became known, President Rajapaksa in a brief statement described the outcome of the general election as the triumph of democracy. <br/><br/>According to the final elections results declared so far , the UPFA has bagged 60.43% of the votes polled. <br/><br/>The main opposition UNP lagging far behind garnering only 29. 43% votes. <br/><br/>Results from the Kandy and Trincomalee Districts have not been released on account of alleged malpractices and will be released after the re polls.<br/>
