The United States has suspended all troop flights to Afghanistan from Kyrgyzstan, where tension remains after a violent uprising against the President. No reason has been given for the indefinite suspension of troop flights from the Manas airbase. The Manas airbase is a key transport hub for US-led operations against the Taliban in Afghanistan. Meanwhile, funerals are to take place later today of about 75 people killed in the uprising. The first funerals were held as a day of mourning for those killed was observed yesterday, with thousands of mourners gathering to lay flowers in the main square of the capital Bishkek. More than 1,500 are also believed to have been injured in the violence. Kyrgyzstan is now in the hands of an interim government led by former Foreign Minister Roza Otunbayeva. The interim government has asked for financial and other assistance from Russia. New Delhi says, it is following closely and with concern recent internal developments in Kyrgystan. An External Affairs Ministery release said, India is hopeful that current political situation will be resolved quickly and peace and stability would return to that country.
