Public sector workers in South Africa going on indefinite strike

Trade Unions in South Africa say that more than a million public sector workers are going on an indefinite strike today after rejecting a government offer of a seven per cent pay rise. Schools are expected to shut and there are reports that some hospitals are being affected.

N Korean plane crashes

A North Korean plane believed to be a Soviet era fighter has crashed in a field in north-east China reportedly killing the pilot. The Chinese authorities are saying little about the incident, but photographs clearly show North Korean markings on the wreckage at large.
