Three Indian Army peacekeepers were killed and seven soldiers injured in an attack by rebels at its base in Congo. According to an official release, they belonged to 19 Kumaon infantry Brigade group deployed in Monusco, a UN peace mission in Congo. The attack took place at Kirumba, the Unit's operating base. Officials say, five innocent looking civilians approached the base today in the wee hours of morning and asked the post for assistance. Even as they engaged the guard on duty with conversation, a group of nearly 50 to 60 rebels attacked the periphery of the post from the surrounding jungle. The attack lasted for about five minutes which left three Indian peace keepers dead. Taking advantage of darkness the rebels fled into the forests.
