The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange ended with a marginal loss of 2 points, at 18,049, after choppy trade, today.The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange fell 4 points, or 0.1 percent, to 5,414. Stock markets in Japan, China, Singapore, Hong Kong and South Korea ended mixed.

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange, which had advanced 58 points in early trade, later pared its gains, and stood just 14 points, or 0.1 per cent in the green, at 18,065, a short while ago. Stock markets in Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea and China were trading mixed.

Oil prices were up in Asian trade today after five straight days of losses. New York's light sweet crude was up 12 cents to 75.36 dollars a barrel in morning Asian trade while Brent North Sea crude gained four cents to 75.67 dollars a barrel.

The rupee today appreciated by 12 paise to Rs 46.68 a dollar in early trade. It had closed at a three-week low of 46.80/81against the US dollar on Monday. Dealers said fresh capital inflow into equities by foreign funds provided support to the rupee.
