Government today removed all restrictions on cotton exports from October 1st this year.A notification to this effect has been issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade. It says all contracts for cotton exports shall however be registered with the textile commissioner before shipment. Government had banned raw cotton exports in April. The notification further says the duty on cotton from the 1st of October has been cancelled. The quantity available for exports and domestic consumption will be fixed by jointly of secretaries of agriculture, textiles and commerce.AIR correspondent adds that India is the world's second largest supplier of cotton. It is also a major consumer with a large domestic textile industry.
