Oil prices lower in Asian trade

Oil prices were lower in Asian trade today as investors awaited a widely watched US payrolls repo. New York&apos;s light sweet crude for November delivery lost 50 cents to 81.17 dollars a barrel. Brent North Sea crude shed 32 cents at 83.11dollars a barrel.

Rupee down by 14 paise against dollar

The rupee today depreciated by 14 paise to 44.33 rupees a dollar in the early trade. It had gained 30 paise to close at 25-month high of 44.19 rupees a dollar in the previous session.Dealers said weakness in other Asian currencies against the dollar put pressure on the Indian rupee.

New private bank licences: RBI meets stakeholders

The Reserve Bank on Thursday met stakeholders, including industry body CII, to discuss the process of issuing new private bank licences. Stakeholders were given time till September 30 to reply. Later banking watchdog has started meeting them to discuss the finer details.
