The BSE benchmark Sensex which gained 163 points in opening trade, stood 159 points up at 18,204 points in noon trade.The broad-based National Stock Exchange Nifty index too was up 44.35 points, at 5,457 points.

Oil prices were higher in Asian trade today. New York's main contract, light sweet crude for July delivery, gained 29 cents to 100.52 USD a barrel. Brent North Sea crude for July delivery traded 20 cents higher at 115.25 USD.

The Indian rupee appreciated by 10 paise to Rs 45.20 per dollar at the Interbank Foreign Exchange today. The rupee had gained 2 paise to close at Rs 45.31 in Thursday's trade.

The rupee washed out major part of its initial gains on late dollar demand, closing just two paise higher at 45.31 against the US currency. Dealers attributed initial rally in the rupee value to smart rebound in local stocks amid weak dollar overseas as well as some dollar selling by exporters.

The Indian rupee appreciated by 12 paise to 45.20 rupees against the US dollar at the Interbank Foreign Exchange today. The local currency hovered in a range between 45.20 and 45.38 per dollar in morning deals.
