Oil prices edges lower in Asian trade

Oil prices edged lower in Asian trade today. New York's main contract, West Texas Intermediate crude for delivery in June, was down 39 cents at 96.62 dollars per barrel while Brent North Sea crude for June shed 58 cents to 112.15 dollars in morning trade.

Rupee down by 42 paise against dollar

The rupee today fell sharply by 42 paise to 53.54 against the US dollar on the Interbank Foreign Exchange market in early trade on increased capital outflows amid strong demand for the American currency. The rupee had lost 21 paise to close at 53.12 in the previous session.
