Centre closely monitoring export trends : Consumer Affairs Min Thomas

Forty-two lakh tons of non-basmati rice has been exported from the country till 24th April this year. The government is closely monitoring the trend of its exports. Consumer Affairs Minister Prof. K.V. Thomas gave this information in the Lok Sabha today. He said the export of non-basmati rice was allowed after considering the record production, procurement and comfortable stock position of rice in theCentral Pool. The Minister said the prices of non-basmati rice have been stable for over a year. The continued export of non-basmati rice is unlikely to have an adverse impact on its domestic prices, he said.
