International Women’s Day is celebrated on 8th of March. All India Radio News honors Women Achievers from diverse fields by bringing their stories. 105 year old Pappamal also known as R. Rangama from the Thekkampatti village of Tamil Nadu was conferred the Padma Shri this year for her work in organic farming for more than seven decades now. She started farming in her late 30’s. Today, she has 2.5 acres of land on which she cultivates variety of crops. Talking to All India Radio News, the centenarian said, organic farming is environmentally friendly. Pappamal says she eats only what she grows in her fields and that secret of her healthy life.<br />
