Sensex declines 723 points during the week; Nifty down by 219 points

The domestic benchmark equity indices fell 1 percent in the holiday truncated week amid mixed earnings from India Inc, possible delay in the US Fed rate cut and Middle East tension. The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange declined 723 points during the week, to close at 70,701 on Thursday. The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange fell 219 points during the week to finish at 21,353. In the broader market, the BSE Mid-cap Index slumped 1.6 percent and the small-cap index shed 0.5 percent.

Sensex gains 226 pts to end at 52,925; Nifty raises 70 pts to 15,860

The Sensex and the Nifty today closed with modest gains. Both equity indices rose more than 0.4 percent amid positive cues from the global markets.   The Sensex at Bombay Stock Exchange gained 226 points, or 0.43 percent, to trade at 52,925.   The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange also added 70 points, or 0.44 percent, to deal at 15,860.   The broader market at BSE also climbed.
