Sensex climbs 673 points; Nifty trades at 17,805

The Sensex and the Nifty today rose more than one percent. Both stocks gained amid positive global cues. The Sensex closed above 59,800 and the Nifty settled above the 17,800 level. 

The BSE Sensex climbed 673 points, or 1.14 percent to trade at 59,856. The NSE Nifty also surged 180 points, or 1.02 percent, to trade at 17,805.

In the broader market at BSE, the Mid-Cap added 0.05 percent and the Small-Cap index surged 0.39 percent.
In the Sensex pack, shares of 25 companies climbed while five slipped. NTPC Finserv was top gainer as it climbed 5.5 percent followed by Power Grid which gained 2.7 percent. SBI added 2.7 percent while Relinace and Titan, both ended 2.2 percent up.
 
On the other side, Sun Pharma fell 1.2 percent while UltraTech Cement and IndusInd, both slipped 0.9 percent.    
In sectoral indices, 16 out of 19 sectors gained. Power gained the most as it rose 2.3 percent, Utilities gained 2.2 percent and energy added 1.8 percent.
 
The overall breadth of the BSE trade was positive as shares of 1848 companies gained while 1538 fell. Shares of 103 companies remained unchanged.
