Government on Friday said the procurement of foodgrains is the highest ever in 2020-21. The country has procured over 869 lakh tonnes of paddy during current Kharif Marketing Season and over 433 lakh tonnes of wheat during Rabi Marketing Season 2021-22, which is the highest ever procured. This was stated by Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha. She said, some state governments have also recorded highest ever procurement of foodgrains during the current year.

Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttrakhand, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir have recorded the highest ever procurement of Wheat during Rabi Marketing Season. Punjab, Bihar, Gujarat, Telangana, Jharkhand, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Uttrakhand and Uttar Pradesh have recorded highest ever procurement of Paddy in the same period.
