In Badminton, Olympic medallist P. V. Sindhu advanced to the pre-quarter finals of Malaysia Open in Kuala Lumpur today. She beat Thailand's Pornpawee Chochuwong 21-13, 21-17 to enter into the second round.

Parupalli Kashyap also progressed to the 2nd round in the men's singles. He won his opening round match against South Korea's Heo Kwang Hee 21-12, 21-17. 

However, Olympic Bronze medallist Saina Nehwal lost to American Iris Wang 11-21, 17-21 in the first round. B. Sumeeth Reddy and Ashwini Ponnappa were also humbled by the duo of Robin Tabeling and Selena Piek of the Netherlands. The Indian pair lost 15-21, 21-19, 17-21.
