The rupee today strengthened 27 paise. The domestic currency settled at 74 rupees and four paise against the US dollar.

The dollar index, which indicates the US dollar's strength against a basket of six other leading currencies, rose 0.2 percent to trade at 95.92 in intra-day trade.
