The rupee appreciated 18 paise to trade at 51.40 rupees against the dollar in early trade today on increased foreign fund inflows. The rupee had closed 16 paise lower at 51.58 rupees against the US currency yesterday on fresh dollar demand from importers and some banks.

Oil fell in Asian trade today. New York's main contract, West Texas Intermediate crude for delivery in May, dropped 23 cents to 103.41 dollars a barrel.Brent North Sea crude for May lost 47 cents to 121.24 dollars per barrel in morning trade.
