The Sensex and the Nifty today logged modest losses. Both stocks fell around 0.3 per cent amid mixed global cues. The Sensex declined below the 52,500 mark while the Nifty ended below 15,700 level. 

The BSE Sensex fell 183 points, or 0.35 per cent to trade at 52,386. The NSE Nifty also slipped 38 points, or 0.24 per cent, to trade at 15,690.
 
In the forex market, the Rupee appreciated eight paise to close at Rs 74.64 against the US Dollar.
 
Gold prices fell around Rs 70 at Multi Commodity Exchange for August contracts. Gold was trading at Rs 47,650 per 10 gram. Silver prices also slipped around Rs 60 to trade at Rs 68,900 per kilogram for September Contracts when reports last came in.
 
Crude oil prices rose for the second day in a row. In intra-day trade, Brent crude prices were trading around USD 74.70 per barrel.
