The Sensex and the Nifty today closed with gains of more than half a per cent. The domestic stocks rose even amid positive global cues. The Sensex finished above the 52,500 mark while the Nifty settled near 15,800 level. The Rupee appreciated 12 paise against the US currency.
The Sensex climbed 393 points, or 0.75 per cent, to end at 52,699. The Nifty also appreciated 104 points, or 0.66 per cent, to settle at 15,790.
In the forex market, The Rupee appreciated 12 paise to close at Rs 74.17 against the US Dollar.
Gold prices gained Rs 80 at Multi Commodity Exchange for August contracts amid gains in gold prices in the international markets. Gold was trading at Rs 47,160 per 10 gram. Silver prices also climbed Rs 60 to trade around Rs 68,000 per kilogram for July Contracts when reports last came in.
Oil prices dipped but still held at multi-year highs, In intra-day trade, Brent crude prices were trading around USD 75 per barrel.
