Zimbabwe stun Sri Lanka by 7 wickets in World Cup warm-up match

Zimbabwe today stunned Sri Lanka by 7 wickets in a warm-up game of the ICC Cricket World Cup at Lincoln, New Zealand. Opting to bat first at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval, Sri Lanka posted 279 for 8 in the alloted 50 overs. Dimuth Karunaratne top scored with 58, with Jeevan Mendis being the other half-centurion. In reply, Zimbabwe overhauled the target with 28 balls to spare courtesy Hamilton Masakadza's superb ton. He made an unbeaten 117. Masakadza was involved in two brilliant over 100-run partnerships with Brendan Taylor and Sean Williams.In the other warm-up game at Christchurch, New Zealand defeated South Africa by 134 runs. The Kiwis, after electing to bat, compiled 331 for 8. Kane Williamson, Brendon McCullum, Nathan McCullum, Ross Taylor and Daniel Vettori made valuable contributions. Later, they bowled out the Proteas for just 197 in 44.2 overs. Paceman Trent Boult bagged 5 wickets.The World Cup, which is being jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand, begins on Saturday. In the opener, New Zealand will meet Sri Lanka at Christchurch. Australia will play England in Melbourne in the other Pool-A fixture of the day.Team India, which is in Pool-B, will play Pakistan in their opening group match on Sunday at the Adelaide Oval.
