Zero tolerance for human rights violations by security forces says Govt

The government today said it has zero tolerance for human rights violations. Informing the Lok Sabha, minister of state for Home Jitendra Singh said human rights cells have been established under the Army and the Central Armed Police Force rules. He said the troops are sensitized at regular intervals regarding the importance of upholding human rights and avoiding collateral damage.

Mr Singh said whenever reports are received of violations of human rights by the security forces, punishments are meted out to the persons concerned. The minister said the armed forces personnel have been issued dos and dont's to be followed while exercising special powers conferred under the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA).
