Youm-e-Ashura commemorating the martyrdom of Prophet Muhammad's grandson, Hazrat Imam Hussain and his companions in the Battle of Karbala in Iraq is being observed across the country. <br/><br/>Tazia and alam processions are being taken out to mark the day. <br/><br/>Muslims observe the day by offering special prayers and fasting. <br/><br/>Ashura falls on the 10th of the month of Muharram as per the Islamic calendar. On this day in the Hijri year of 61, Imam Hussain with his family members and 72 followers were martyred in the Battle at the hands of Yazid's soldiers in order to uphold the teachings of the Prophet. <br/><br/>In Uttar Pradesh, both communities of Muslims, participated in Tazia processions with a deep sense of grief and sacrifice in most of the districts. <br/><br/>Our Lucknow correspondent reports that Shia community took out a large procession with Tazias from Nazim sahib Imamabara in the state capital.
