The Karnataka legislative Assembly elected Yogish Bhat as Deputy Speaker today amidst opposition demand to post pone it. The post was vacant for over one year. As the House assembled for the day, the Opposition continued its dharna in the well of the House demanding for adjournament motion on land scam involving the Chief Minister. The Speaker reiterated his ruling that it cannot be allowed under rule 60, and put the election motion for voting. The opposition led by Siddaramaiah argued that the election should be postponed till the 16 disqualified MLAs case is decided in the court. Law minister Suresh Kumar however noted that the court has not given any stay against the election. Yogesh Bhat was thereafter elected by voice vote. Interpersed with pandemonium and commotion the Speaker also allowed tabling of CAG report, supplementary estimates and reports filed by various committees.
