Vice President of India Venkaiah Naidu today said Cancer is a major problem in India and one of the 10 major death-causing diseases and therefore more stress should be given on preventive measures. <br/><br/>Mr Naidu was speaking at the Graduation Ceremony 2018 at the TATA Memorial Centre in Mumbai, which is a comprehensive centre A-Grant-In-Aid Institute under the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India. Calling medical profession a noble cause especially Oncology, the Vice President further said he felt elated he was felicitating future oncologists from almost every part of the country.<br/> <br/>Elaborating further, Naidu said modernisation has led to less physical activity and so only exercise, lifestyle changes, good food habits can help prevent the disease. He added that the Government should make screening for cancer mandatory for every citizen after a certain age. Pointing out that right from school days, yoga should be practised for a healthy living, Mr Naidu said Yoga has nothing to with religion. It is a holistic approach towards health.<br/> <br/>He said out of lakhs of cancer patients in the country, 2/3rd of them are curable subject to early detection. An ancient medical system like Ayurveda should be explored to find solutions to fight cancer. Similarly, sanitation is more important than political freedom and hence the Prime Minister has launched Swatchh Bharat Mission. A healthy nation is a wealthy nation but the vice versa is not always true.<br/> <br/>The Graduation ceremony was attended by Governor of Maharastra Ch Vidyasagar Rao, Chairman of Atomic Energy Commission of India Shekhar Basu, VC of Homi Bhabha National Institute PR Vasudev Rao and Maharashtra Minister for Education Vinod Tawde.
