Yemen's President Saleh expresses willingness for peaceful transfer of power

Yemen's President Ali Abdullah Saleh today expressed his willingness for a peaceful and constitutional transfer of power in his country. He however did not say whether he was accepting a Gulf nations proposal to step down for allowing a change. Reports said, welcoming the efforts of the Gulf Cooperation Council in trying to end Yemen's political crisis, the embattled president said he had no reservation in transferring power peacefully. His statement came a day after the Gulf States asked him to hand over power to his deputy to pave way for a smooth transition. Saleh, who is facing unprecedented protests against him, had last week rejected a proposal by Qatar that called for his exit.
