Yemen President Ali Abdullah Saleh, who suffered minor injuries in an attack on the presidential palace on Friday, said in a brief speech that an outlaw gang of his tribal foes instigated the assassination attempt.In an audio message on television, Saleh blamed the attack on the Hashed tribe led by Sadeq al-Ahmar, who has been battling his loyalists in Sana’a. Saleh said seven people were killed in the attack on the presidential compound.Earlier, the deputy information minister told a news conference that the President suffered minor injuries but is in ‘good health’. Reports said that the Prime Minister and Parliament Speaker were also injured in the attack.Meanwhile, thousands of people fled for safety in capital Sana’a in the latest escalation in an uprising against Saleh’s rule that began in January. Reports say that more than 60 people have been killed in the fighting since a fragile truce collapsed on May 31.The Indian Government has set up special helplines in view of the evolving situation in Yemen.
