Yemen gunmen blow up oil pipeline

In Yemen, unidentified gunmen yesterday blew up an oil pipeline in the south eastern region of the country. The operations on the gas pipeline which transports some 8,000 barrels per day to export terminals on the Gulf of Aden have been suspended. According to reports the unidentified assailants planted an explosive device under the pipeline overnight in the village of Rudum in Shabwa province 25 kilometers from the Nushaymah export terminal.The blast brought oil pumping to a halt. The pipeline is operated by the Korea National Oil Company and transfers crude from oilfields in the Iyadh region, also in Shabwa province. The oil and gas installations in Yemen have been a constant target of the militants affiliated to Al Qaeda in Arabian Peninsula nation and the country has lost billions of dollars in revenues. Oil and gas the only major sources of revenue for the impoverished north African nation.
