Yeddyurappa’s anticipatory bail plea rejected in illegal mining case

A CBI Special Court in Bangalore has rejected anticipatory bail to the former Chief Minister of Karnataka, B. S. Yeddyurappa in the illegal mining case.

Judge D.R. Venkata Sudarshan yesterday also rejected anticipatory bail pleas of Yeddyurappa’s two sons, B.Y Raghavendra and B.Y. Vijayendra and son-in-law R. Sohan Kumar. His lawyers said they would move the High Court for bail.

The mining bribery case is being probed by the CBI on the directive of the Supreme Court. Yeddyurappa and his kin are accused of taking kickbacks from mining companies in return for favour.

Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate yesterday filed a petition in the CBI court seeking permission to question mining baron and former Karnataka minister G Janardhan Reddy on illegal mining. Reddy is currently lodged in Bangalore Central Prison at Parappana Agrahara on the city outskirts.
