Amid scenes of pandemonium, the B S Yeddyurappa today won a vote of confidence in Karnataka Assembly. Prior to the voting, the state Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah disqualified 16 rebel MLAs, including 11 from BJP under the provision of the anti defection law. With this the strength in the 224-member Assembly was brought down to 208. Accordingly, the number of votes needed to prove majority also came down to 105. The BJP with its 106 MLAs easily achieved the majority by voice vote.High drama marked the proceedings when Speaker K G Bopaiah declared the motion of confidence passed by a voice vote. As the House plunged into further uproar, Bopaiah adjourned the House sine die.The opposition vowed to challenge the Speaker's ruling disqualifying 11 BJP MLAs and five independents this morning despite Governor H R Bhardwaj's directive not to change the status quo with regard to the party's strength. Opposition Congress and JDS have decided to call on the Governor seeking his intervention. Congress said it would parade their MLAs and also the rebels before the Governor.
