In Karnataka, the B S Yeddyurappa government today won the motion of confidence by voice vote. Prior to the vote,the state Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah disqualified 16 rebel MLAs, including 11 from BJP under the provision of the anti defection law. With this action, Bopaiah brought down the strength in the 224-member Assembly to 208. This also brought down the number of votes to prove majority to 105. The BJP with its 106 MLAs easily achieved the majority by voice vote.The house has been adjourned sine die after the trust motion.Reacting to the proceeding the leader of opposition Sita Ramaiah said this is unconstitutional and they will approach the governor.Earlier today, the speaker went ahead with the disqualification of the rebel MLAs despite the directions of the Governor H R Bhardwaj not to alter the strength of the house before floor test. The rebel MLAs were also barred from entering the House to prevent them from participating in the trial of strength.
