Yeddyurappa to present Karnataka budget on Friday

Chief Minister of Karnataka B S Yeddyurappa who also holds the Finance portfolio will present his fifth state budget tomorrow afternoon. Yeddyurappa had presented first three budgets as the Deputy Chief Minister during the coalition government which fell in 2008. This will be his second budget as the State’s Chief Minister. The Chief Minister has assured that it will be a budget in favour of farmers.<br/><br/>The opposition leaders have however expressed apprehension that the state economy will suffer if barrowings increase and fresh taxes are imposed to augment revenue for development work, especially for the flood relief. <br/><br/>The Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industries President J Crasta said they will strongly oppose any move to levy additional taxes during the Budget. In a release, he said ‘additional tax will be detrimental to the economic growth of the state which is yet to recover from economic slowdown. <br/><br/>He said the Trade and Industry was just recovering from the economic slowdown, thanks to Centre extending its stimulus package. He has added that Karnataka is the highest taxed state in the country, which accounts to nearly 12 per cent of the GSDP. Levying of additional tax will affect the industry and trade and in turn common man,’ he felt.<br/>
