Karnataka caretaker Chief Minister Yeddyurappa moved the Karnataka High Court yesterday seeking quashing of the Lokayukta report on illegal mining and questioned its recommendations to prosecute him under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Yeddyurappa also simultaneously filed a petition with the Lokayuktha seeking a review of its report just hours before Lokayukta Santosh Hegde demitted office yesterday. Yeddyurappa has pleaded for an opportunity to prove his innocence. The appeal to Lokayukta will be taken up by Justice Shivaraj Patil, who takes over the mantle of Lokayuktha from Justice Santosh Hegde today. Justice Hegde's five-year term as Karnataka Lokayuktha ended yesterday Meanwhile, BJP National leaders arrived in Bangalore last night to finalise the successor of Yeddyurappa, who had to resign after indictment by Lokayuktha on illegal mining. BJP leaders Rajnath Singh, Arun Jailtely and Venkaiah Naidu held discussions with the state leaders. As per the statement given earlier by BJP leaders, the announcement of the new leader will be made by 11.00 am today. The State Party President Eeshwarappa has said the decision taken by their leaders on the person to occupy Chief Minister’s seat will be acceptable to everyone in the party.
