The water level in River Yamuna is gradually coming down though it still continues to flow 1.77 meters above the danger mark. According to Flood and Irrigation Department the river is flowing at 206.60 meters and the water level is expected to recede further. Several low lying areas including Usmanpur, Garhi Mandu, Jagatpuri village, Shastri Nagar and Geeta Colony have been adversely affected and over 3500 people have been evacuated from these areas. The water level in the river has been on the rise after heavy rains in the upper catchment areas and continous release of water from the Hatnikund barrage.National capital has also received widespread rainfall this season and the MET department predicts few spells of heavy showers overnight. The more than normal monsoon has led to an upsurge in the number of dengue cases in the city with the total number of confirmed dengue cases reaching 2631. Delhi Health Minister Kiran Walia told AIR that all possible steps are being taken to prevent the spread of dengue and other water borne diseases in the flood affected areas. She added that 13 mobile vans have been deployed for surveillance in these areas.
