Yamuna level continues to rise

Water level in river Yamuna continues to rise and is expected to touch an all time high tomorrow evening. According to Central Water Commission officials the river is flowing near the danger mark and is likely to cross 207.49 meters tomorrow evening. The river touched of 207.49 meters in 1978 when more than 7 lakh cusecs of water was released from the Hatnikund barrage. This time Haryana has released over 8 lakh cusecs of water which will reach Delhi tomorrow.Delhi government has issued a warning in the low lying areas along the banks of the rivers. People living in flood prone areas were already evacuated when the level in Yamuna rose last month.Due to heavy rain in the upper catchment areas, there has been steady release of water from the barrage this monsoon season. Last month, the river was flowing 1.14 meters above the danger mark at 205.97 meters.
