Water level in river Yamuna continues to rise and is expected to touch an all time high tomorrow evening. According to Central Water Commission officials the river is flowing near the danger mark and is likely to cross 207.49 meters tomorrow evening. The river touched of 207.49 meters in 1978 when more than 7 lakh cusecs of water was released from the Hatnikund barrage. This time Haryana has released over 8 lakh cusecs of water which will reach Delhi tomorrow.Delhi government has issued a warning in the low lying areas along the banks of the rivers. People living in flood prone areas were already evacuated when the level in Yamuna rose last month.Due to heavy rain in the upper catchment areas, there has been steady release of water from the barrage this monsoon season. Last month, the river was flowing 1.14 meters above the danger mark at 205.97 meters.Meanwhile, in Haryana, around three dozen villages in Yamuna Nagar and Karnal districts have been submerged in water following breaches occurred on the embankment of Yamuna river. The Yamuna river is flowing above the mark of danger due to heavy rain in the catchments area of northern hills. Two lakh thirty seven thousand cusecs of water released in Yamuna from Hathnikund Barrage today morning, has worsen the situation. Yesterday, six lakh 86 thousand cusecs of water released from Hathnikund Barrage in Yamuna has reached Karnal and affected number of villages. The gush of water is expected to reach Delhi in coming 24 hours with the potential of causing flood. Deputy Commissioner Yamuna Nagar M.Ashok Sangwan said that army's help had been sought as Yamuma, Som and Pathrala rivers have been overflowing due to heavy rain fall which is continuous in the hills. He said that the people in the affected villages have been shifted to safer places and rescue and relief operation has been intensified. A spokesman of Haryana Government at Chandigarh told our correspondent that Haryana Chief Secretary Ms.Urvashi Gulati has assessed the situation and administration has been alerted in Yamuna Nagar, Ambala, Karnal, Kurukhshetra and Sonipat districts.
