Yakub Memon's execution: BSP urges SC to consider latest facts in case

BSP has urged Supreme Court to consider the latest facts in the case of the 1993 Mumbai blasts convict Yakub Memon facing death sentence. Talking to reporters outside Parliament, party Chief Mayawati said the Apex Court and the Central government should see the recent facts including promises made to Memon by the investigating agency before taking a final decision. <br/><br/>Earlier, leaders of several parties, eminent jurists and persons from different walks of life had submitted a petition to President Pranab Mukherjee requesting him to waive the death sentence of Yakub Memon. The signatories said there are substantive and fresh grounds that can be considered on merit. Those who have signed the petition include BJP MP Shatrughan Sinha, and its expelled MP Ram Jethmalani, Mani Shankar Aiyar of the Congress, Majeed Memon of the NCP, Sitaram Yechury of the CPIM, D Raja of the CPI and film personalities like Naseeruddin Shah. Retired judges like Justice Panachand Jain, Justice H S Bedi and Justice P B Sawant have signed the petition. Memon's execution of death sentence is scheduled to take place on 30th of this month.
