Wrestler Vinesh Phogat eyes to win medal at Tokyo Olympics

With around 23 days remaining for the beginning of the Tokyo Olympics, All India Radio brings a special series on India's medal prospects at the sporting extravaganza. Today we will focus on wrestler Vinesh Phogat.
 
As the first Indian woman wrestler to win a gold medal at the Asian games, Vinesh Phogat, dreams of listening to the National Anthem Standing on the Olympic Podium.
 
Hailing from a small village in Haryana, Vinesh has had a difficult start. Her golden period started from 2019 when she won gold in the 48-kilogram weight category at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
 
Her success in the international arena, became a recurring feature in her career ever since. Her dream to win a medal in the RIO 2020 Olympics did not materialize due to an unfortunate knee injury.
 
Making a tremendous comeback from her injury, Vinesh won gold in the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. She went on to become the first Indian women wrestler to grab the gold medal at the Jakarta Asian Games.
 
She Secured her ticket to Tokyo by winning a Bronze medal in the 53 Kg weight category at the Asian Wrestling Championship.
 
Chief Coach Kuldeep Singh Malik remarks that Vinesh is a strong fighter.
 
The Government has extended its full support in Vinesh's preparation for the Tokyo Games.
 
Having won the gold medal in the Poland Open, Vinesh has now set her sights firmly on a medal in Tokyo.
