In the London Olympics today, India will only figure in one event as wrestler Narsingh Pancham Yadav takes field in the men's 75 kilogram freestyle category. Indian fans will be hoping for a good show from Yadav after a disappointing day for the country on Thursday.
On the 13th day of competitions at the London Olympics yesterday, India's lone woman wrestler Geeta Phogat's campaign came to an end when she was defeated in the women's freestyle 55 kg repechage round. In Track and Field, India's Tintu Luka failed in her bid to enter the finals of the women's 800 metres while high jumper Sahana Kumari also failed to make it past the Quaification round.
Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt made history at the Games yesterday, when he successfully defended his Olympic 200 metres crown to claim an unprecedented second successive sprint double. Bolt, who retained the 100 metres title on Saturday, crossed the line in 19.32 seconds to win the 200 metres race at the Olympic Stadium.
Bolt led a Jamaican clean sweep of the podium, with training partner Yohan Blake taking the Silver and Warren Weir claiming the Bronze.
The Day also saw a World Record Olympic track meet run by 800 metre winner David Rudisha. The Kenyan finished in One Minute, 40.91 seconds, shaving 10 seconds ahead of the mark he set in 2010.
The United States clinched a 2-1 victory over Japan in the Olympic women's football final. In Boxing, Britain's Nicola Adams won the first ever women's Olympic Flyweight Boxing final with a 16-7 verdict.
For India, the day was not so successful. The 2010 Commonwealth Games Gold winner Geeta had made it to the repechage rounds when her first round opponent, Canada's Tonya Lynn Verbeeek, went all the way to the final. It gave the Indian another chance to have a shot at the bronze medal. However, she lost 0-3 to Lazareva. Japan's Saori Yoshida won the event completing an golden hatrick.
In Womens's 800 metres, Tintu Luka clocked her season best time of One minute, 59.69 in the semi finals but it was not enough. In Long Jump, Sahana performed well below her personal best and was knocked out of the women's high jump after clearing 1.80 metres.
There are 17 Gold Medals on offer at the Games today.
The final of the women's 4 x 100 metres relay and Men's 4 x 400 metres will take place today. Among the other events scheduled for today are, Men's Pole Vault Final, Women's Hammer Throw Final and Women's 1500 metres and 5000 metres finals. In Women's Hockey, the Gold medal match will take place between the Netherlands and Argentina.
