The wholesale price-based inflation rate rose to 0.79 percent in May this year, due to a double-digit increase in vegetable prices. WPI inflation had stood at 0.34 per cent in April this year, and at minus 2.2 percent in May last year. Government data showed that wholesale food inflation rose to 7.88 per cent in May, from 4.23 per cent in April. Wholesale inflation in vegetables surged to 12.94 per cent in May this year, from 2.21 per cent in April. Wholesale inflation in pulses stood at 35.56 per cent. And manufactured products inflation inched up to 0.91 per cent in May, from 0.71 per cent in April. Fuel and power inflation was minus 6.14 per cent in May.
