Wholesale Price inflation edged up marginally to minus 4.54 per cent in September as against minus 4.95 per cent in August. It has been in the negative zone since last November. In September last year, inflation was 2.38 per cent. According to the data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, The index for the Primary Articles rose by 0.4 percent to 252.4 from 251.5 for the previous month. Inflation in food articles inched up to 0.69 per cent in September, from minus 1.13 per cent in August. The data showed that onion and pulses turned costlier with inflation at 113.70 per cent and 38.56 per cent during September. The rate of price rise in vegetables was at minus 9.45 per cent as against minus 21.21 per cent in August. The report also mentioned that the Inflation rate in fuel and power segment was minus 17.71 per cent in september, while in manufactured products it was minus 1.73 per cent. Besides pulses and onion, the food items which became dearer in September were eggs, meat and fish. Food articles like Pulses, vegetables and onion and non food articles like cotton seed and raw silk have turned costlier. The CPI or retail inflation for September rose to 4.41 per cent, from 3.74 per cent in the previous month.
