World’s longest local train inaugurated in Mumbai

Mumbai, received the longest local train in the world on Saturday. Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated 15-car rake service at Andheri which will halt at Andheri, Borivali and Virar stations. The Minister is on her first visit to Mumbai, after taking over the charge of Railway Ministry. She said that railways will take up a study for linking Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and Churchgate either through under ground or overhead links. She also flagged off Mumbai Nagpur Duranto Tri-weekly express, Bandra Terminus-Jodhpur Weekly Express, Mumbai-Karwar Tri-wekly Express and two New Ladies Special Suburban Services. She also inaugurated the first in-house Mechanised linen Laundry at Wadi Bunder and the Dadar-Midtown Terminus, which is expected to decongest Bandra and Mumbai Central terminus. Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan urged Union Railway Minister Mamata Bannejee to recruit more Maharashtrians for jobs in the state. A number of dignitaries were present on the occasion including Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Chaggan Bhujbal, Science and Technology Minister Prithviraj Chavan, Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel, Minister of state for communications and information technology Gurudas Kamat, and Mumbai Mayor Dr.Shubha Raul.<br/>
