World Water Day focuses attention on importance of freshwater

<span style="color: #222222;">Today is World Water Day which focuses attention on the importance of freshwater and advocates for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.&nbsp;</span><br />” <br />” <span style="color: #222222;">The theme of this year is leaving no one behind. This is an adaptation of the central promise of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: as sustainable development progresses, everyone must benefit.&nbsp;</span><br />” <br />” <span style="color: #222222;">World Water Day dates back to the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development where an international observance for water was recommended.&nbsp;</span><br />” <br />” <span style="color: #222222;">The United Nations General Assembly responded by designating 22 March 1993 as the first World Water Day.&nbsp;</span><br />” <br />” <span style="color: #222222;">On World Water Day, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu called on people to pledge to work towards achieving access to safe water to all.&nbsp;</span><br />” <br />” <span style="color: #222222;">In a tweet, Mr Naidu called upon everyone to promote sustainable management of freshwater resources and conserve and rejuvenate all rivers and water bodies which are lifelines for many regions. </span><br />” <br />” <span style="color: #222222;">He said, apart from ensuring safe water to all sections, there is a need to sensitise everybody, including school children, on the necessity to conserve every drop of water through 'Reduce, Reuse and Recycle water' campaigns. He said, water is a basic human right.&nbsp;</span><br />
