World Telecommunication Development Conference to begins today in Hyderabad

<br/>World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-2010) will be commencing from today in Hyderabad. Union Communication and IT Minister A. <br/><br/>Raja will take part in the fifth edition of the world summit. After 12-day long deliberations on various telecommunications and IT related issues, the world summit will adopt an action plan in the fifth edition of the summit which is being organized jointly by the Ministry of Communication and IT and the International Telecommunication Union. <br/><br/>The Hyderabad declaration will set the agenda and activities of the ITU and Telecommunication Development Sector for the next four years. <br/><br/>The declaration is expected to be a strategic plan and an action plan to pave way for building on the global information society for all. Representatives including Ministers, Ambassadors and senior government representatives and representatives of private sector are expected to take part in the conference. <br/><br/>During the conference, Telecom Secretary P.J. Thomas will take over as Chairman of WTDC for the next four years. <br/><br/>’Connect a School, Connect a Community', is a public-private partnership launched by International Telecommunication Union to promote broadband Internet connectivity for schools in developing countries. Best practices on policies and regulations to promote school connectivity were among the issues discussed at a high-level seminar held as part of side event of the Summit last evening. <br/><br/>Connecting all primary, secondary and post-secondary schools to Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) by 2015 was one of the targets set by world leaders at the World Summit on Information Society.<br/>
