World Sea Turtle Day being observed today

World Sea Turtle Day is observed every year on June 16. This day is celebrated to save this aquatic species from extinction. It highlights the importance of sea turtles in the marine system.<br />” <br />” AIR correspondent reports,The sea turtles are magnificent creatures that live as the keystone species on the ocean body. Not only are sea turtles beautiful animals, but they also show incredible perseverance and resiliency.<br />” <br />” Sea turtles that feed on seagrass and soft corals are heralded as ecosystem engineers. Green turtles graze on seagrass, preventing seagrass beds from becoming overgrown and stimulating new growth.<br />” <br />” The contribution of sea turtles to the integrity of these ecosystems is of great benefit. Sea turtles in India are protected by the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972, which bans consumption of turtle meat and eggs by all except for indigenous tribal communities, including the Onges and Shompen, in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.<br />” <br />”The existence of sea Turtles is important to the environment and influences other species as well. If these species are removed, then the natural habitat will be affected, impacting other wildlife and fauna in a different way.&nbsp;
